My Boombox Weighs A Ton...

'Sup, soul babies? Apologies for leaving so much time on your hands to contemplate why I'm such an insufferably lazy bastard. No worries, though...as soon as the temperature drops below 60 degrees, my ass will be staying indoors a lot more often and we can fall in love all over again. Word.

I'm almost finished with a lengthy post that will drag you snitches back to school for a dose of higher learning, and there's a phenomenal guest mix comin' up from one of my long-term affiliates as well.

Until then---easy does it, children. Do it easy...

Fundamental Supplementalz:

Still haven't decided exactly how I wanna work out my own tribute to Black Moses, but in the meantime, I thought a lot of you would enjoy DJ Wonder's mix from Shade45's morning show. It blends Hayes' original material with tracks by hip hop artists who've sampled his work...a perfect set for sample seekers and crate diggers worldwide:

"Isaac Hayes Tribute Mix"---DJ Wonder (zShare only)

Black Merda performing "Cynthy-Ruth"...still doing the damn thing decades later:

Word From Your Moms:

"My fear was not of death itself, but a death without meaning."

"There's no reason for the establishment to fear me. But it has every right to fear the people collectively - I am one with the people."

"If you stop struggling, then you stop life."

All above quotes courtesy of Dr. Huey P. Newton, who was fatally shot by Tyrone Robinson in the Acorn Projects neighborhood in Oakland on this day in 1989. His dying words were "You can kill my body, but you can't kill my soul. My soul will live forever!"

Great stuff...luv the Wonder mix. I get to listen to his ish on Shade45 and am always impressed.

Also, being here in Denver, we'll be getting alot of the revolutionary/Huey P vibe over the next week or so. Big ups Schoolly Scholar.

I feel as if this post was for me; at least a couple of songs and Word from your moms anyway ;). You are a wonderful human being with much to offer this world. I believe the world recognizes that, too.

Fall in love all over again?....how about just continue this journey ;).

Much love,
PK

Hi Scholar, I trust you are well my good man. Another fine wee selection of goodness.

Curtis is impossible not to love, I think he is the only man who can make me feel, and I'm not too proud to admit this, tingly and warm on the inside, while maintaining my ruggedly cool and handsome demeanour on the outside.

I am hoping to get down to London town (all being well in my world) to catch the boys from Japan, the Osaka Monaurail with the wonderful Ms Whitney at the Jazz Cafe 1st Nov, so a good choice mi amico, synchronicity if you will!

Nice to hear the Sugar Man himself Sixto Diaz Rodriguez on Souled, kudos. His great "lost classic" Cold Fact is getting a long overdue reissue release, from the good people at Light in the Attic records, you may well know this as the North American market got it on the 19th of this month, (a great day to be born, if I do say so myself) while over here in Blighty we have to wait until the 8th of September. But wait we shall!

Peace to you and yours cousin.

I realise that you and your learned readers will indeed be aware of the Rodriguez reissue etc if they had followed the dig deeper tag, as I have just done, right there, this very minute. So apologies to all for my reiteration.

You got a new aftershave or somethin' Scholar? the people are showing a whole lotta love buddy...me included!
