Word From Your Moms:
"Somewhere in the archives of crudest instinct is recorded the truth that it is better to be endangered and free than captive and comfortable."
"Our individuality is all, all, that we have. There are those who barter it for security, those who repress it for what they believe is the betterment of the whole society, but blessed in the twinkle of the morning star is the one who nurtures and rides it, in grace and love and wit, from peculiar station to peculiar station along life's bittersweet route."
"Actually, there are countless ways to live upon this tremorous sphere in mirth and good health, and probably only one way - the industrial, urbanized, herding way - to live here stupidly, and man has hit upon that one way."
"Anybody who maintains absolute standards of good and evil is dangerous. As dangerous as a maniac with a loaded revolver. In fact, the person who maintains absolute standards of good and evil usually is the maniac with the revolver."
"If you believe in peace, act peacefully; if you believe in love, acting lovingly; if you believe every which way, then act every which way, that's perfectly valid - but don't go out trying to sell your beliefs to the system. You end up contradicting what you profess to believe in, and you set a bum example. If you want to change the world, change yourself."

That first quote from WFYM is pretty good. Me thinks you should think so, too.
little strange... one songs blog, it's all? cheers
Another great one Scholar. Merci beaucoup.
BTW The Leon Russell is especially fantastic.
Scholar delivers once again, this blog continues to do it for the people.
Many thanks.
Mad info here Schoolly Scholar. Man it is hard to believe that "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" is already 10+ years old.

(Dr. Evil: The key to this project is the giant laser, which was invented by the noted Cambridge physicist, Dr. Parsons. So therefore, it is fitting to call it The Alan Parsons Project
Dr. Evil: What?
Scott: The Alan Parsons Project was a progressive rock band from 1982. Why don't you just name it Operation Wang Chung, ass? )
Hey Scholar, come stai?
Some top tunes my friend, puts yer old papsi here, under some serious pressure to come good with my promise of an impending blog effort. I'm off for some therapy in sunnier climes then I shall stand up and be counted.
one more thing, that Moby album is littered with Alan Lomax recordings samples and cheap ass keyboard and drum loops, plus it was filtering through to my life every fuckin where when first released. I think every single track has been used on various tv and radio ads over the years. I'm no fan... you may well have gathered that. Nor I'm I a fan of the Kanye West vocoder/ talkbox nonsense, sounds like that another twat Mr "locked up" Akon,(wish you bloody were)
Anyway pal, I'll be seeing you
peace and good will etc
Nothing is more surprising than the ease with which the many are governed by the few.

is there anyway you can re-up I Let Love Slip Away by David Ruffin please thanks.....
I miss visiting this site. Bitter-sweet memories. Great post. That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be.
Take care and enjoy your day.
?
Buen trabajo hermano. Esta, y cosas como esta, son las que hacen que internet pase a la historia.
@Wonder Woman~ this has become my mantra. There's a whole lot of wisdom to be found in Tom Robbins' novels, ya know...
@AJ~ nice post.
@anon 1~ sorry man. Souled On is never going to be an album blog, but there are plenty of them out there if that's what you're looking for...
@Jaysun~ je vous en prie.
@ Paul~ glad you enjoyed this round of SOS. Always keep you in mind when I'm assembling one of these posts.
@Commish~ well shit. I'm glad I'm not the only one who still remembers when that Nubian joint was fresh. There are kids in the audience who were still rockin' Huggies when Foundation came out, so yeah...further evidence that we're becoming dinosaurs, cousin.
Hope you've been well.
@Styler~actually I will co-sign both your praise and criticisms, mi amico. I know that I pulled out some hot joints for this session (there's always a few I'm really proud of, like the Final Decisions joint), but I also try to throw in a few that a wider range of people may be interested in as well.
About Kanye, I used to love his shit (still have some unreleased beats of his that were very hot, if not fiyah), but he lost my interest a while back. I thought 808s was overrated as fuck, but my point here was that he's made the comment that he didn't use samples on the album. I would guess that Alan Parsons begs to differ.
As far as Moby is concerned, he's a twat IMO, but I do listen to Play on occasion. Many people don't seem to realize that he culled those vocal tracks from Alan Lomax's distinguished series~ they think that Moby is just an incredibly industrious crate digger.
As far as artists who sell their music to be utilized as commercial jingles, it is perhaps the most irksome form of prostitution I can imagine occuring in the creative realm. That said, corporations are evil~ if you don't sell them your song, they will change a note and use your shit anyway, and you won't see a penny of the royalties. It's a fucked up process regardless.
Enjoy your vacation, my brother. Hopefully you will return well-rested and much inspired.

@anon3~I've missed you around here, Ms. Question Mark.
@anon4~gracias mi amigo.
I've got a winamp playlist called "souledon" just for posts like this
1 luv scholar. ya large
Thanks again for another great post. The "You and I" track by Black Ivory was also sampled by Q-Tip on his new album. The track is called "Gettin' Up".
Keep up the good posts!

Finally..I've been vindicated! I've always said "Requiem" from the 5th Dimension was their best song ever.
@ Chrome~ I'm truly honored my man. I hope you've been well, fam.
@ Sydney~ You're absolutely right about the Q-Tip joint. I usually list several hip hop songs that sampled the same song, but I got a little bit lazy about that this time around. Reader participation is always encouraged. Thanks for the comment.
@ Anon~ I agree with you 100%. I was never a huge fan of 5th Dimension, but "Requiem" is all kinds of beautiful.
Killarmy sampled it also, but I always prefered Doom's flip.
Thanks for making such a good post. Die heart fans of Soul Music will really found this post interesting because of the minute and small details pertaining to the Soul Music you have out here. Thank you for the article, very worthwhile material.
It won't work in actual fact, that is exactly what I suppose.
The 5th Dimension is definitely my favorite here - but there are some good sounds in the list so it was hard to chose. Thanks!Gynexin
